Kelly Combs is an Odessa Texas native who is an Associate with Barron & Newburger. He practices primarily in the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group out of our Austin office.
About
Following his undergraduate degree, Mr. Combs lived abroad for several years before returning to the U.S. to complete his MBA, beginning his professional career in the Permian Basin In his first legal work environment, as a paralegal, he began to help clients in general litigation, and through his work in real estate, wills and estates. This experience led him to pursue his law degree in Austin, where he has lived and worked since.
Experience
Throughout his tenure in the legal profession, Mr. Combs has dedicated his efforts to safeguarding and advancing the strategic interests of businesses, associations, and individuals entangled in complex disputes.. In addition, he provides guidance to clients to steer them towards preemptively fortifying their legal positions and maintaining compliance. Mr. Combs concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial litigation, real estate disputes, as well as cases relating to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
Awards & Recognition
Mr. Combs is an active member in the State Bar of Texas, Austin Bar Association, and the Austin Young Lawyers Association, serving as a liaison between the Young Lawyers and the Austin Bar. In addition, he graduated from the Austin Young Lawyers Leadership Academy, which assists Austin-area lawyers in making a difference in the community and in service to the Bar. During law school, Mr. Combs was a staff editor on the Journal of Law and Technology at Texas and served more than 100 hours as a student attorney in the Mithoff Pro Bono Program. Prior to law school, Mr. Combs was selected as the sole “Outstanding MBA Graduate” of his class year and was a recipient of the Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship, where he spent a year in Morocco to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas.
Personal
Away from the office, Mr. Combs can often be found biking on the trail around Lady Bird Lake in Austin. He has been a volunteer usher at the Zach Scott Theatre and Bass Concert Hall. He also enjoys travelling.
