David Stern is a Senior Counsel of Barron & Newburger, P.C. He works in the firm’s Bankruptcy Practice Group and practices out of the Austin office.
Experience
David N. Stern focuses his practice in the areas of commercial litigation, business bankruptcy, and creditors’ rights. He primarily assists companies, associations, and individuals in resolving contractual and other commercial disputes through litigation, arbitration, mediation, and out-of-court negotiations.
He has handled matters before state, bankruptcy, and other federal courts in Texas, Florida, and Georgia. His reported decisions include In re Ferry, 2023 Bankr. LEXIS 2481 (Bankr. M.D. Fla. 2023), In re Ferry, 2021 Bankr. LEXIS 1213 (Bankr. M.D. Fla. 2021), In re Maison Grande Condominium, Association, Inc., 425 B.R. 684 (Bankr. S.D. Fla. 2010), and United Parcel Service v. Moore, 519 S.E.2d 15 (Ga. App. 1999).
Awards & Recognition
Mr. Stern is an active member of the Robert W. Calvert American Inn of Court and the Hon. Larry E. Kelly Bankruptcy American Inn of Court. He is a former chair of the bankruptcy section of the Broward County Bar Association, and former award-winning chair of a committee of the Atlanta Bar Association responsible for writing and performing annual musical comedies (A Courthouse Line) to raise money for charity. He is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the bankruptcy section of the Austin Bar Association.
Mr. Stern graduated with honors from the University of Florida College of Law, where he was an associate editor of the Florida Law Review and a member of the moot court team. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree, served as student body treasurer, and was inducted into Florida Blue Key and the University of Florida Hall of Fame.
Personal
Mr. Stern was raised in Charleston, South Carolina, and has practiced law at large and small law firms in Atlanta, South Florida, and Austin. He lives in Austin with his two children and their two dogs, one of which is named Charles Stern in honor of his hometown (one of the dogs, not one of the children).
