Paul Hammer is a Shareholder with Barron & Newburger and leads our Houston office. Mr. Hammer practices primarily with the firm’s Bankruptcy and Reorganization Group.
About
Mr. Hammer has enjoyed a distinguished and versatile career in the litigation and bankruptcy spaces. He has favorably resolved commercial disputes in numerous economic sectors. On the financial restructuring side, he has successfully represented constituencies in distressed situations in an array of transactions and workouts.
Experience
Early in his legal career, Paul completed clerkships for a federal district court judge and a bankruptcy judge. Prior to joining Barron & Newburger, Paul worked at large national law firms. Among his responsibilities was to serve as outside general counsel for an international energy company. He was also intimately involved in one of the largest debt restructuring proceedings in history. He has extensive experience in handling bankruptcy and reorganization proceedings for energy, healthcare, and retail clients. He has represented debtors, executory contract parties, Trustees, private equity funds, executives, insurers, general contractors, sub-contractors, and project owners, plan proponents and sponsors, debtor-in-possession (DIP) lenders, investors, vendors, banks, landlords, and committees.
Awards & Recognition
Paul is a frequent speaker on CLE courses and podcasts relating to bankruptcy and reorganization issues. He has been published in the ABI Journal, Business Credit Magazine, and Caribbean Business, amongst many others. In 2016, Mr. Hammer was inducted into Caribbean Business’ Top 40 Under 40. Paul has been recognized as a Top Lawyer by Houstonia Magazine in 2019 and named to the 2018 Edition of Best Lawyers® List by BL Rankings. Paul has also served on the Executive Board of the ABI’s Commercial and Regulatory Law Committee.
Personal
Paul is fluent in Spanish. Outside of the office, Paul is a proud parent and has been an active volunteer with Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, and the Houston Bar Association, “Consejos Legales” volunteer program.
